The Penn-Del IPM Research
Group is a research and education consortium. It consists of 20 members.
These members are from different facets of the "green industry"
in Pennsylvania, including educational institutions, public gardens,
public parks, commercial and corporate landscape design, build, and
maintenance firms, arborists, and nurseries.
What is IPM?
Integrated
Pest
Management
is the modern approach to managing pests. It involves compiling detailed,
timely information about a crop and its pests to ensure that pest management
decisions are economically, environmentally and socially sound. IPM
also advocates the integration of as many suitable pest management tactics
as possible.
Our
Mission - To provide education and information about Integrated
Pest Management to the Ornamental Horticulture Industry.
Cooperators/Members
- We have cooperators from the following counties in Pennsylvania and
Delaware:
PA - Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lancaster, Lehigh, Montgomery,
Philadelphia
DE - New Castle
Activities
- The Penn-Del IPM group is involved in research on various ornamental
pests.
Ornamental
Pest Reports & Hotline - Weekly scouting is done
by Penn-Del members to record growing degree day, insect and plant phenological
activity. This information is reported in the weekly Ornamental Pest
Reports, which are available through subscription. The Ornamentals Hotline
is a newsletter with up-to-date information on pest, disease, and cultural
problems of turf and ornamentals. For more information on the Ornamental
Pest Reports & Ornamentals Hotline, and a subscription order form,
see the Ornamental Pest Report & Hotline
brochure (PDF).
As of the 2006 season, the
weekly Pen-Del Ornamental Pest Report is on hiatus while 15 years of
reporting data is prepared for publication. However the Ornamental Hotline
is still available by subscription. Please contact Sue Barton, sbarton@udel.edu
for more information.
